Barnet Hospital e-Gift

An e-gift of Love from Jesus on Valentine’s Day

The families of patients nearing the end of their lives at Barnet Hospital will now be able to use the internet to contact loved ones around the world thanks to a Valentine’s Day gift from a church.

Church members from Jesus House Church, in Brent Cross have donated £1500, some of which will buy Broadband Services for The Garden Room, a place of retreat for patients nearing the end of their lives, their friends and families.
The rest of the money from Jesus House will go towards renovating the parent’s room on the children’s ward, Treasure Island.

Ayo Adedoyin, the head of community services at Jesus House said: "This is a very small gesture which we hope will have a big impact. In this era of The Big Society, every one of us needs to play a bigger role to add value to our society."

The hospital is currently seeking to raise £1.5 million towards the purchase of The Da Vinci Robot which will immediately transform cancer care and treatment in North London. We are calling on people in this borough to unite and help raise the £1.5million needed for this technologically advanced surgical system which will modernise the way the Trust carries out minimal invasive surgery.

Mark Louisy, the Voluntary Services Manager said: "Barnet Hospital provides excellent care for patients at the end of their life. This care is enhanced by valuable gifts of love like this for patients who may not otherwise have the opportunity to say good-bye to members of their families abroad."

The Garden Room was funded by many generous donors and contributors, including The Late Fred Wolffing Estate, The King's Fund, Garfield Weston Foundation, All Aboard Charity, Barnet League of Friends, Marks and Spencer Southgate, Waitrose, Nandos Enfield and proceeds from the 2009 5k Fun Run/Walk by staff members.
